February 2014 Meeting Program:
Sal and Michael DeSapio, Viaggi Italiani

Sal and Mike De Sapio are longtime Italian club
members. At the February 18th dinner meeting,
they will share their experiences of traveling in Italy, with a slideshow presentation. Between the two of
them, they have traveled to Italia 10 times.
Sal traveled to Italy for the first time in 1965 when his father, Anthony De Sapio brought the entire family to visit his homeland. The family visited the iconic cities of Rome, Florence, Venice, Milan and Naples, but Sal was particularly impressed with his father's hometown of Monteforte Irpino near of Avellino. Sal enjoyed the trip so much that he and his wife Marianna Belmonte De Sapio (who was born in Benestare, Calabria) spent their honeymoon in Italy in 1978.
Sal and Marianna's son Mike studied in Italy with Penn State University in the city of Milan for the spring semester of 2002. During that time, Mike was able to do quite a bit of traveling around Italy. Sal was fortunate enough to join Mike for Easter vacation and make another trip to Monteforte Irpino. Sal’s brother Jim, his wife Ellen, and two of their children Tony and Sandria, joined Sal and Mike for Easter dinner at the relatives.
Mike returned to Italy on four subsequent trips. In 2007, he returned for the wedding of a close friend in Locri, Calabria. During that trip Mike visited the town of Benestare where Marianna was born.
After the passing of his wife Marianna, Sal traveled to Switzerland and Italy in the summer of 2012 to visit with his son Antonino and his family who live in Switzerland. They visited Lake Lugano and Venice. In the spring of 2013, Sal returned to Italy with Mike and Nino’s family and stayed at a villa in Tuscany. Sal was able to visit with Nino’s family again in the fall of 2013 when they visited Lake Guardia and the city of Verona.
Sal and Mike are planning another trip for the spring of 2014 to travel again to Monteforte Irpino, with Nino and his family.
Sal is one of the owners and partners of the family construction business, De Sapio Construction Inc., along with his brothers Jim and Anthony. Mike practices law with his uncle Gaetano at the De Sapio Law Office in Frenchtown New Jersey.
