Dr. Mary Ann Re, Director, Cocchia Institute

Dr. Mary Ann Re, Director of the Coccia Institute for the Italian Experience in America, was conferred the honor of “Cavaliere, Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana” in a surprise presentation during the Coccia Institute’s signature spring collaboration with ITANJ (Italian Teachers Association of New Jersey), Italian Language and culture Day 2012: “Un giorno nella vita di....” (University Hall Conference Center, March 28th, 2012).
Dr. Re received her Bachelor’s Degree and her Ph.D. In Sociology from St. John’s University in Queens, New York.
She has worked in social service and policy research in New York and Washington as well as in a number of positions at AT&T Headquarters in New Jersey. Dr. Re served as the Executive Director of the Italian and Italian American Heritage Commission of NJ for two years before becoming Director of the Coccia Institute.
Dr. Re is actively engaged with a number of cultural and civic organizations, including Vice President of the Associazione Eoliani nel Mondo, based in Lipari, Italy; the New York - New Jersey Italian Cultural Bridge; the Italian Heritage Culture Committee of New York; La Confederazione Siciliani Nord America and the Italian American Heritage Club of Hunterdon County, NJ. Mary Ann is also a member of UNICO National and the Lt. Joseph Petrosino Lodge, Order Sons of Italy in America.
