Author Joseph C. DeFranco carefully pens an engaging, interesting and highly delightful narrative that depicts his immense love for his family, friends, Italian heritage, food, and cooking in Growing Up In The Butcher Shop. This book reveals stories that bring back days gone by and lessons once taught.  It is Defranco’s own way to keep the old customs alive and give the young an idea as to the way life was then, growing up in the sixties in a butcher shop. This volume revolves around the stories of growing up in an Italian American family that owned a business and the lessons his immigrant grandparents taught him about love, family, business, and community.

The DeFranco business started in 1926 by Philip and Teodora DeFranco. At that time, the business was an Italian grocery
store and butcher shop.

After their retirement in 1976 they gave the business to their son, Martin DeFranco who moved the shop from Roseto to West Bangor Road, Bangor, PA where the business is today. In 1989, Joseph took over the family business and continues to compliment the fine quality of meat which his family once sold. Today, Joe has made the company grow into a seven day a
week business with catering services available anytime.

At J. DeFranco and Daughters we specialize in Italian Cuisine, but we also offer a variety of other menu selections. We offer butler service, buff et style, country style service and we also will simply deliver your selections and set up

We have catered events as small as a romantic dinner for two and as large as weddings with as many as 250 guests and more. No job is too big or small. Along with fulfilling catering needs, DeFranco and Daughters Catering makes its own gourmet sausage. Fresh Cut Meats, Imported and Domestic Cheeses, and Take-out Orders are available.

During Sal Lazzarotti's tenure as President of the IAHC, he skillfully created our Club logo.  If you look closely, not only does it contain the Italian and American flag colors, it also contains the letters "I" and "A" further denoting pride for our Italian and American heritages. )
